How to Move a Live WordPress Site to Local Server

Steps
Install duplicator plugin on live site
create new package
go through all the steps
download the installer and the package
ON LOCAL WEB SERVER
turn on WAMP / MAMP
go to phpMyAdmin
create a new database for this duplicated site… name it appropriately. Best practice all lowercase with _
go to local web directory
create a new folder for this duplicated site.
Name the folder appropriately e.g. sitename_DEV
Now, in a browser go to localhost/sitename_DEV
click to open the installer file.
follow the steps
** MAKE SURE YOU ENTER THE CORRECT DATABASE NAME
Finish
Go to the localhost/sitename_DEV and login with whatever login you use on the live site
Go to settings > permalinks
it should be…POSTNAME:
even if it’s already set like this. Save settings to refresh the Permalinks.
visit localhost/sitename_DEV in the browser. Check that everything fine.
YAY REJOICE YOU DID IT.
Now experiment and break your site to your hearts content!
